About

Meljo Thomas Karakunnel is a media professional and an academic specialising in environmental communication, media ecology, media freedom, and communication for SDGs and human rights. He is an assistant professor at Christ University Bangalore Central Campus, where he coordinates the MA Media and Communication programme. He also leads a team of academics and practitioners training journalists in climate communication.

Meljo completed his doctoral studies as a University Grants Commission Junior Research Fellow at the University of Calicut. His thesis focused on professional freedom and satisfaction of media persons in Kerala. He has organised major national and international conferences, including the National Mass Communication Research Conference and Media Meet, seminars, workshops and festivals of music and millets.
