About

My primary areas of interest include tuberculosis (TB), sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and molecular diagnostics, with a focus on the development and evaluation of advanced diagnostic technologies, antimicrobial resistance profiling, and molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases. I am particularly engaged in developing nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs), point-of-care diagnostics, and innovative approaches for the detection and surveillance of pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Mycoplasma genitalium, as well as serological and immunological studies related to infectious diseases.

I am currently serving as Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, India, where I also lead the STI Reference, Research & Training Centre and the NTEP-accredited TB laboratory. I am in charge of the STD, TB, and Serology divisions, contributing to both clinical diagnostics and translational research. Internationally , I serve as President-Elect of the International Society for Sexually Transmitted Diseases Research (ISSTDR) and as Honorary Secretary of IUSTI Asia Pacific. I am also the Chair of the 27th ISSTDR & 28th IUSTI World Congress on STIs (2027, New Delhi), contributing to global efforts in STI research, policy, and capacity building.

My research work has been supported by national and international agencies, including ICMR and DBT, focusing on drug-resistant tuberculosis, STI diagnostics, and infectious disease surveillance. My work integrates laboratory innovation with public health implementation, particularly in resource-limited settings. I have received several prestigious fellowships, including the ICMR International Fellowship for advanced molecular training in Sweden and the Fogarty Fellowship under the NIH-supported AIDS and TB International Training and Research Program. I am an elected member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) and a Fellow of the International Medical Sciences Academy (FIMSA).

I continue to contribute to national and global health initiatives, strengthening laboratory networks, advancing diagnostic capabilities, and improving surveillance systems for TB and STIs.
