About

My research is mainly based on design and pure multistep synthesis of functional small molecules, macromolecules and polymers for supramolecular assemblies, organic photovoltaics, chemo-bio sensors and stimuli responsive organic coating. These four research areas of modern chemistry relay on development of novel synthetic methodologies and utilizing them in the synthesis of functional molecules.

Area 1: Diverse supramolecular assemblies ranging from nanometres to micrometers of small aromatic π-conjugated functional molecules have attracted enormous research interest in light of their applications in optoelectronics, chemosensors, nanotechnology, biotechnology and biomedicines. The π-conjugated amphiphiles and bolaamphiphiles of naphthalene diimides and perylene diimides with variable hade groups such hydroxyl, carboxylic, phosphonic, sulphonic, nitro and amine form controlled one-dimensional (1D), two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structures such as nanowires, nanoribbons, nanotubes, nano/micro-belts, nanosheets, and nano/micro-flowers using weak molecular non-covalent forces such as hydrogen-bonding, π -π interaction, van der Waals interaction and electrostatic interactions.

Area 2: In recent years π-conjugated small electron donor acceptor molecules play a key role on the constructions of organic photovoltaic devices due to its simple design & synthesis and easy processability. My current research is focused on synthesis of novel electron acceptor chromophores and utilizing them into organic photovoltics for photocurrent generation.

Area 3: Presently I am focused on design and development of probes based on organic heterocyclic molecules for selective detection of cations, anions and biologically important analytes (amino acids and biologically important amines and acids).

Area 4: We also engaged in the development of novel polymer and polymer composite systems for smart organic coatings (stimuli responsive such as pH, temperature, light and moisture).
