About
Dr. Amit Kumar Verma is Professor and Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology (SVPUAT), Meerut, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine from Uttar Pradesh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-Anusandhan Sansthan (DUVASU), Mathura, India. He further enhanced his interdisciplinary expertise by obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics from the Bioinformatics Institute of India and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, India.
Dr. Verma's research focuses on herd health management, veterinary epidemiology, disease surveillance, and zoonotic pathogens, with particular emphasis on Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), brucellosis, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), campylobacteriosis, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), canine parvovirus infection, mycoplasmosis, and antimicrobial resistance. His work contributes significantly to understanding the epidemiology, prevention, and control of infectious diseases affecting livestock and public health.
An accomplished academic mentor, Dr. Verma has supervised and guided postgraduate and doctoral research in the fields of FMD, brucellosis, salmonellosis, colibacillosis, and other important animal diseases. As a member of advisory committees, he has contributed to the successful completion of research programs for numerous M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars.
Dr. Verma has an extensive scientific record, including more than 200 peer-reviewed research articles in national and international journals, 20 book chapters, numerous invited lectures, lead papers, and over 150 conference presentations and published abstracts. He actively participates in national and international scientific meetings, fostering collaboration and dissemination of research findings.
He serves as Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor, editorial board member, and reviewer for several reputed national and international scientific journals, contributing to the advancement of veterinary research and scholarly communication. His excellence in teaching, research, and scientific presentation has been recognized through multiple awards, including Excellence in Teaching, Best Research Paper, Best Review Paper, and Best Oral Presentation awards at various academic forums.
Dr. Verma remains committed to advancing veterinary science through innovative research, capacity building, and the promotion of One Health approaches for the control of animal and zoonotic diseases.
