AROCKA INFANT PAUL
International Rice Research Institute, International Rice Research Institute South Asia Regional Centre, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University
About
Dr. Arockia Infant Paul completed his Ph.D. in Agriculture from the Department of Agronomy, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore, focusing on weed mapping and spray volume optimization for herbicide application in direct-seeded rice (DSR) using drones. In 2022, he was awarded the prestigious INSPIRE Fellowship by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. During his doctoral research, he collaborated with the IRRI Direct Seeded Rice Consortium and Texas A&M University.
He also contributed to a university research project titled “Innovative labour-saving techniques in direct-seeded rice using drones”, which he optimized both drone seeding and drone-based herbicide application in DSR. In 2019, he received a research grant from the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology to support his master’s research.
Dr. Paul has expertise in drone technology, weed science, cropping systems and sustainable agriculture. This has led him to his current role as a researcher under the Sustainable Impact through Rice-based Systems at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) from the month of February 2024. He is involved in developing and disseminating improved and sustainable agricultural technologies.
