About
I am a population geneticist with a deep passion for livestock genomics, and I currently serve as a scientist at ICAR-IVRI, Bareilly, India, after securing the top rank in the 2010 Agricultural Research Service (ARS) examination in Animal Genetics & Breeding. Throughout my career, I have received numerous prestigious accolades, including ICAR-NET qualifications in animal production, Animal Genetics, and Animal Biotechnology, as well as the ICAR-JRF & SRF, ICMR-JRF, and CSIR-NET & JRF.
Since joining ICAR-IVRI in 2011, I have been at the forefront of integrating advanced genomic technologies, such as microarray-based profiling and RNA sequencing, to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying novel genes and signaling pathways associated with various diseases in livestock.
From 2013 to 2016, I served as the principal investigator for the DST FAST-TRACK Young Scientist project, leading pioneering research on genetic resistance to Theileria annulata infection in crossbred Tharparkar cattle and buffaloes, a first in India. Later, as the main researcher in the 2016-2018 institute project, my team made a significant breakthrough by successfully determining the breed composition of Vrindavani and Frieswal crossbred cattle using the bovine 50K SNP chip, a first in India (Now registered as synthetic breeds). We also performed RNA-Seq analysis for classical swine fever vaccination in local crossbred pigs and worked on molecular cloning of Bubaline mammary miRNAs.
Our research has helped us understand genetic differences associated with mastitis resistance, revealing distinct patterns of immune-related mRNA expression across breeds and species. In addition, we explored the endometrial transcriptome during early pregnancy in water buffalo, focusing on genes regulated by progesterone and prostaglandin. Recently, we identified breed-specific SNPs with intermediate minor allele frequencies, improving cattle breed identification accuracy. Right now, in my current project with ICAR-NASF and NLM, my team has found potential genes related to how different cattle and goat breeds adapt and produce, using data from the BovineSNP50 chip, GBS, and WGS.
I have published 150 research papers, including 114 international peer-reviewed articles, which have been widely acknowledged for my scientific contributions. An h-index of 26 and an i10-index of 71 on Google Scholar further reflect the impact of my research. The 100 papers cited in PubMed also reflect the scientific community's recognition of my research. Over the past fourteen years, I have mentored eight M.V.Sc. Students and two Ph.D. candidates.
I am also the author of a comprehensive book on solved papers for the Agricultural Research Service examination in Animal Genetics and Breeding. Recently, I was awarded the ICMR-DHR International Fellowship for 2023-24 to work under the mentorship of Prof. Cedric Gondro at Michigan State University's Department of Animal Science, USA. This fellowship supports senior Indian biomedical scientists in advancing their research initiatives.
