About
Gadafi Iddrisu Balali is a Ghanaian academic, researcher, and science educator with a strong background in biological sciences, microbiology, public health, and science education. He is currently an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Science/Science Education at SDA College of Education, Agona-Ashanti, Ghana, where he teaches and supports the training of future teachers in areas such as General Biology, Science Curriculum, Integrated Pest Management, and research methods.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences Education from the University of Education, Winneba, and a Master of Philosophy degree in Microbiology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Microbiology at KNUST and Public Health at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. His academic journey reflects a deep commitment to scientific research, teacher education, public health, and national development.
Gadafi’s research interests cut across microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, infectious diseases, environmental microbiology, public health, and science education. He has contributed to several scholarly works, including studies on microbial contamination of fresh fruits and vegetables, antimicrobial activities of medicinal plants, horizontal gene transfer in microbes, foodborne pathogens, and antimicrobial resistance. His work focuses particularly on the occurrence, transmission, and public health implications of pathogenic microorganisms within food systems and healthcare environments.
As a researcher, he is especially interested in understanding microbial contamination along food consumption pathways, with emphasis on fresh produce such as mangoes, as well as the antimicrobial resistance patterns of organisms such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella. His broader research agenda also includes determinants of antimicrobial resistance in Ghana, electronic health record systems in healthcare facilities, and the implementation of science education reforms.
Beyond research, Gadafi is passionate about teaching, mentorship, and capacity building. His teaching philosophy is grounded in creating learner-centred, supportive, and engaging classroom environments where students are encouraged to think critically, participate actively, and apply scientific knowledge to real-life situations. He believes that effective science education should combine theory, practical laboratory experience, inquiry-based learning, and mentorship.
He has participated in professional development programmes and academic training opportunities, including science diplomacy, wetland assessment, blue economy and sustainable development, and environmental health-related courses. These experiences have strengthened his interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research.
Gadafi Iddrisu Balali continues to contribute to academic scholarship, science education, and public health research in Ghana and beyond. His long-term goal is to advance scientific knowledge, support evidence-based health and education policies, and mentor the next generation of scientists, teachers, and public health professionals.
