About
Dr. Sumit Dass is an Assistant Professor (II) in the School of Electronics Engineering at KIIT University, where he has served since 2019. He earned his Ph.D. from IIT Bhubaneswar, focusing on the design and fabrication of microfiber-based interferometric structures for curvature and acoustic sensing. His doctoral research brings together experimental optics, microfiber-based device fabrication, and computational modeling. From 2022 to 2024, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Florida Atlantic University, where he contributed to the development of in-situ stereo-imaging and digital holography systems for characterizing marine zooplankton communities. His work further extended to integrating holography, fluorescence imaging, and machine-learning–driven classification to enhance underwater environmental sensing. His technical strengths include optical instrumentation, underwater and 3D optical imaging, fiber-optic interferometry, microfiber fabrication, and multiphysics simulations using MATLAB, COMSOL, and OptiFDTD.
