About
I, Anish Kumar Das, am a final year Ph.D. student in the School of Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Sukhendu Mandal at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER-TVM), India, where I have gained extensive research experience in the field of nanomaterials. My research focuses on the synthesis of atom-precise silver, gold, and copper nanoclusters and the design of their assembled frameworks to explore their cutting-edge applications. I began my research career as an integrated Ph.D. student in August 2016 at IISER-TVM, where I worked on the synthesis of hybrid organic-inorganic halide perovskites during my M.Sc. project under the guidance of Prof. Sukhendu Mandal.
My research is primarily focused on exploring the potential applications of metal nanoclusters (NCs) in various chemical and physical processes. Metal NCs are atomically precise metal nanoparticles with dimensions less than 3 nm that exhibit unique molecular properties that can be controlled by unprecedented tailoring on the metal core and surface ligands for specific functionalities. These characteristics of metal NCs provide an exciting opportunity to investigate structure-property relationships at the atomic level. I believe that my research in the field of metal NCs has made a contribution to our understanding of the size-dependent properties of these materials and their potential applications in various areas.
One of the main challenges in the research of metal NCs is determining their crystal structure, which I have successfully tackled through my expertise in single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis. I believe that my work on metal NCs has the potential to explore the nanomaterials field for the better. With my research, I hope to inspire the development of new and improved materials that possess enhanced physicochemical properties. Through my experiences in nanomaterials research, I aim to make even more substantial contributions in the future.
