Between, May. 2016 to Feb, 2020, Dr. Sharma served as an Associate Professor (Specialization Cancer Biology and Medical Biotechnology) at DYPBBI, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, India. Before joining as an Associate Professor, Dr. Sharma worked as an Assistant Professor (Specialization Cancer Biology and Medical Biotechnology) at DYPBBI (2013-2016).

Dr. Sharma has actively been engaged in academic work to teach subjects like Cancer Biology, Immunology, Molecular Cell Signaling, Molecular Biology to undergraduate and postgraduate students Dr. Sharma has been credited with more than 80 publications including in indexed National and International journals, book chapters/conference proceedings, Five national patents (Published and Granting process is in progress), and Database accession of novel tri-peptides.

SUMMARY OF CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECT:

Research Project Title 1: TO DEVELOP AND VALIDATE A NOVEL VERTICAL TUBE GEL ELECTROPHORESIS (VTGE) SYSTEM THAT WILL ENSURE EFFICIENT METABOLOMIC BIOMARKERS DISCOVERY IN CARCINOMA
Goal:
• To develop detection tools for the early detection of oral and breast cancer by using VTGE and LC-HRMS
• To investigate fundamental studies that lead from Metabolome to Epigenome

Research Project Title 2: TO EXPLORE POTENTIAL OF DNA REPAIR INHIBITORS TO LIFT THE BURDEN OF HIGH DOSE CHEMOTHERAPEUTIC DRUGS IN CARCINOMA
Goal:
• To revisit the differential lose and high dose aspects of well-known chemotherapy drugs.
• To investigate the cellular and molecular aspects of possible lowering the dose of genotoxic drugs and concomitantly appreciable retardation to carcinoma proliferation and possible cell death.
• To dissect out the molecular basis of such observations using cellular and molecular tools.

Research Project Title 3: SMALL REGULATORY RNAS CROSSING THE BOUNDARY FROM MAIZE TO TARGET ABERRANT CELLULAR SIGNALING IN CARCINOMA
Goal:
• To extract, fractionate and identify small regulatory RNAs from maize for their effects towards carcinoma progression and death.
• To understand the molecular targets of small regulatory RNAs from maize in carcinoma.

Research Project Title 4: TO INVESTIGATE EFFECTS OF NON-CELLULAR ACTORS FROM ONE CARCINOMA UPON CELLULAR SIGNALING ADAPTATION OF ANOTHER CARCINOMA
Goal:
• To understand the interference of one carcinoma non-cellular agent to modulate the growth and progression of another carcinoma.
• To translate 2-D cell culture observation into 3-D tumor model and mouse tumor model.
• To investigate the molecular, genetic and epigenetic changes due to microenvironment cross talk.
