During his illustrious professional career, Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh has made outstanding contributions in teaching and research. He is distinguished for his many crucial and outstanding contributions in the area of space weather study of the upper atmosphere over low latitude and characteristics of aerosols over IGB. He has succeeded in resolving issues of crop residual burning aerosols and their long-range transport over the whole IGB which impacted the scientific community thinking. His study of the nature, formation, and transport of polluted aerosols in the Asian troposphere aerosol layer (ATAL) by a series of BATAL campaigns has revealed various unsolved properties of ATAL. His study of solar eclipse analyzed first time at eight different cities induced significant reduction in solar irradiance, surface Ozone and dynamical changes to the meteorological parameters as well as TIDs oscillations in ionosphere generated by atmospheric gravity waves. His work done is widely cited in books, reviews, and papers with h-index 34 and i10-index 96 having total citations 3970. Prof. Singh has published more than 200 research papers, supervised 16 Ph.D. students, and completed 15 research projects amounting Rs. 4 crores to his credit. He established single-handedly Atmospheric Research Lab. recognized by ISRO. He worked at Umea University, Sweden as BOYSCOST Fellow for one year. Prof. Singh visited several counties abroad namely The Netherlands, ICTP Italy, Sopron Hungry, Busan S. Korea, New Orleans, Pasadena and Boston USA. He has developed excellent scientific temperament, experimental skill, high-quality research work and distinct academic and administrative capabilities.
