About

Krishnan BALACHANDRAN received the M.Sc. degree in Mathematics in 1978, the M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Applied Mathematics in 1980 and 1985 respectively from the University of Madras, India. He has served as Lecturer at the Madras University PG Centre, Salem (1986-1988), Reader (1988-1994) and Professor (1994-2016) at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. After serving as Professor and Head (2008-2016) of Mathematics Department, Dean of Faculty of Science(2011-2013) and UGC-BSR Faculty Fellow (2016-2020) at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, India currently he is associated with the same university as a mentor faculty.

He has participated and delivered invited talks in national and international conferences. He has also delivered invited lectures in many universities in India and abroad. Under his supervision, several candidates were awarded Ph.D. degrees in the fields of Control Theory, Differential/ Integral Equations, Stochastic Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Mathematical Biology, Fractional Differential Equations and General Topology. To his credit, he has published good number of research papers in these fields and many papers are in SCI journals. He is acting as referee for various international journals and Associate Editor of few international journals . He is a reviewer for Mathematical Reviews, AMS-USA and ZbMath, Germany. He is a member of AMS and life member of IMS, CMS, ISCA, INSA and ISIAM. He is a fellow of Academy of Sciences, Chennai.

He has authored text books 'Elements of Control Theory' (Narosa, 1999, 2012) and 'An Introduction to Fractional Differential Equations' (Springer, 2023) and research monograph 'Analysis of Single-Term Walsh Series Technique to Singular Systems' (ASME, 1992).

He was awarded the Fulbright Visiting Fellowship at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, USA in 1996. He is a recipient of Chandna Mathematics Award in recognition of distinguished and outstanding contributions to mathematics research and teaching in 1999. He got the Tamil Nadu Scientist Award in 2001 and Global Research Award of the US Navy in 2012. He has been awarded UGC-BSR Faculty Fellowship in 2016.

He was a visiting scientist at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy (1987, 1990), University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, TN, USA (1993), Pusan National University, South Korea (1997), University Wyoming, USA (2004) and Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, USA (2012). He was a Visiting Professor at Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan (1998) and Visiting Research Professor at Yonsei University, Seoul in 2005 and the Pusan National University, Pusan, South Korea in 1999-2000 and 2008-09. He has delivered a series of lectures on Control Theory at Pusan National University, Dong-A University. Kyungnam University in 2000, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea in October 2003, City University of Hong Kong in August 2002, University of Wyoming, USA in June 2004, Hanoi Normal University, Vietnam in June 2011, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea in December 2011, Kongju National University, South Korea in June 2017, Yongzhou University, China in May 2019 and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia in December 2019. Also delivered a talk at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Muscat, Oman in March 2024.

He has participated and delivered contributed talks as NBHM sponsored mathematician in the International Congress of Mathematicians held at Bejing, China in August 2002, ICM 2006 held at Madrid, Spain in August 2006, ICIAM 2007 at Zurich, Switzerland in July 2007, ICM 2010 at Hyderabad, India, ICIAM 2011 at Vancouver, Canada in July 2011, ICM 2014 at Seoul, South Korea, ICIAM 2015 at Beijing, China. He has also participated ICM 2018 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and ICIAM 2019 at Valencia, Spain. He has participated and delivered a contributory talk in ICIAM 2023 at Tokyo, Japan in August 2023.
