About

Prof. Vinod Kumar is working in the Department of Chemistry at Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh, India. He earned B.Sc. (Chemistry Hons.) and M.Sc. (Chemistry) from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Haryana. Dr. Kumar qualified NET-Examination (a highly competitive test for lectureship in India) in 2001 and obtained Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in the year 2006 from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Owing to his exemplary contributions in the field of Chemical Sciences, Prof. Kumar received “ISCA-Young Scientist Award” of the Science Congress in 2007 from the then President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, “Prof R.C. Shah Memorial Lecture Award” of the Indian Science Congress in 2017 and “Haryana Yuva Vigyan Ratna Award” presented by the then Governor, Chief Minister, and Minister of Science and Technology, Haryana in 2017. He has also received the Best Researcher Award (Innovator) by Central University of Haryana for the year 2024. He worked as a Research Scientist in a pharmaceutical company (Jubilant Organosys Ltd., Noida) for more than two years. He was invited to visit Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI), South Korea, as a Foreign Expert in 2012. His research interests focus on structural reinvestigations; the development of greener synthetic approaches for valuable chemical products; process development for APIs; and synthetic, mechanistic, and spectral aspects of heterocyclic compounds, mainly azoles of medicinal interest, besides the exploration of the chemistry of Schiff bases. In the recent past, his group synthesized some novel anti-cancer, DNA photocleaving agents, and antimicrobial heterocycles in addition to developing mild and economical pathways for important organic intermediates or compounds. He has published more than 110 research papers and review articles in professional journals. He co-authored the book “Pericyclic Reactions: A Mechanistic and Problem-Solving Approach” published by Academic Press, London, and co-edited two books, namely “Chemical Drug Design” published by De Gruyter, Berlin, Germany, and “Recent Advances in Organometallic Chemistry: Synthetic, Mechanistic and Medicinal Perspective” published by Elsevier. A total of 07 Indian Patents have already been granted for his innovative research findings, and 20 have been published. He has supervised several students in M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs for their dissertation or thesis work.
