Dr.S.Christain Johnson was born in the year 1967 in south arcot district of Tamilnadu, India. Dr.S.Christian Johnson acquired his B.E in Civil Engineering in May 1988,from Annamalai University,Tamil Nadu, M.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering with specialization in Aircraft Structures in January 1990 from I.I.T Mumbai, Maharashtra and M.B.A in HRD in the May 2007 from Annamalai University and PhD under the Faculty of Civil Engineering in 2012 from Anna University, Coimbatore.
After the completion of his M.Tech., he joined for the doctoral program leading to PhD at IIT Mumbai itself in January 1990. After completion of course work and seminar presentation, as procurement research materials from England delayed much, he left that Research work on the topic “ Thermo mechanical behavior Composite materials with thermoplastics as resin”and joined as a Lecturer in Bharath Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering at Navi Mumbai and served there from November 1990 to April 1991.
Later, in July 1991, he joinedwith National Aeronautical Laboratory, Bangalore as a Post Graduate Traineeand involved in the proto type model study and fabrication of composite rudder component of India’s prestigious light combat aircraft (LCA) Project and now the named as TEJAS.
In the first week of February 1992, he returned to his home state and joined with erstwhile TNEB (Tamilnadu Electricity Board) as Assistant Engineer/Civil on 6thFebruary 1992and served there till 30th June 2012 in various capacities. Till March 1994, he was involved in the project works related LMHEP (Lower Mettur Hydro Electric Project) -IV and executed the project extension works.
During his tenure there, he was involved in many innovative and challenging time bound targets. To name one such innovation, he introduced thermal insulation wool along with cement slurry and Ferro cement over the ACC roofed temporary residential quarters and modified them as permanent quarters in which people live even now comfortably over there without much heat which normally prevails in ACC roofed buildings. Another challenging work was the renovation of fire and flood damaged Pumped Storage Hydro Power Plant at Kadamparai and silt affected Kundah power house -2 Electricity board at Geddai, Tamil Nadu due to Cloud burst occurred there in the catchment area.
In April 1994, he joined with TNEB’s HRD wing Hydro Power Training and Research Centre as anAssistant Engineer/ Training and Development in the Civil division. When TNEB bifurcated as TANGEDCO and TANTRANSCO, the training institute where he was working continuously for more than 18 years came under TANGEDCO .
During his service there, he had spearheaded various institutional and onsite trainings and workshops to train more than 20,000 Personnel (Engineers/Officers/staff) of TNEB/TANGEDCO/TANTRANSCO through more than 1000 short term refresher and long term induction courses. In December 2005 he was promoted as Senior Manager/Civil (Training and Research). He was one of the pioneer to conduct the first national level workshop of Hydro Training Institute on the topic “ Fly ash based building Products” in which many Engineers of various public and private utilities across the country including fly ash based building product manufacturers and contractors across the state were given awareness about how best this waste material “ fly ash “ can be converted as wealth in an effective manner.
Followed by this other national level workshops like “emerging trends in hydro power stations”, “Renovation of modernization of hydro power stations” etc., have been organized and conducted for the benefit of hydro Engineers of various utilities. Around 350 Engineers from other state electricity boards, private industries and entrepreneurs were benefitted through such national level workshops/seminars.
Besides the above he was instrumental in organizing several short term franchise training programs for the final year Electrical and Electronics students of various Engineering Colleges across Erode, Nammakkal, salem and Coimbatore Districtsfunded by Rural Electric Corporation of India Ltd., through Hydro Training and Research Centre.
While he was working in TANGEDCO, he selected the problem of underground corrosion in Transmission line towers of TANTRANSCO and pursued his research and suggested remedial measures to enhance the durability of structure using some FRP Composite materials which was like a continuation of the research what he has dropped at IIT Mumbai. Under this Program he submitted his PhD thesis in the erstwhile Anna University, Coimbatore, (merged with Anna University, Chennai) in the year in December 2010.
As teaching was his loving profession, he resigned from TANGEDCO on 30.6.2012 and Joined with Excel Engineering College, Komarapalayam as a Dean, Excel Engineering College and Professor of civil and worked there till 26.4.2018. From 27.4.2018 till 10.7.2018 he was with
