About

Dr. Anil K. Gupta, MD (Pediatrics) is a senior pediatrician and neonatologist with over four decades of experience in tertiary-level neonatal intensive care, clinical research, and medical education. A gold medalist from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, he has been engaged in dedicated neonatal practice since 1986, beginning at the Level IV NICU, Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi up to 1993. Since April 1993 he has remained deeply involved in hands-on Neonatal Intensive Care and Teaching across major Delhi Government hospitals.
Dr. Gupta has served as Senior Consultant and DNB/DCH Teaching Faculty with the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), Government of India (2021–2025), and currently is Senior Consultant Pediatrician and Neonatologist and Associate Professor of Paediatrics at Maharaja Agrasen Kedar Nath Gupta Medical College, Bahadurgarh, Delhi NCR (Haryana), while continuing active clinical practice.
During the formative years of neonatology in India, he was among early clinician-researchers to introduce structured NICU infection surveillance, non‑nutritive sucking for preterm and low‑birth‑weight infants, bedside cranial ultrasonography, and BAER-based newborn hearing screening into routine clinical care. His work contributed to establishing cranial ultrasonography as a bedside standard for diagnosing intraventricular hemorrhage, hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy, and periventricular leukomalacia, and for longitudinal neurodevelopmental follow-up, preceding the widespread availability of neonatal MRI.
He has published over 35 peer‑reviewed research papers in national and international journals, with significant contributions in NICU-acquired infections, neonatal lung injury and later wheezing disorders, bilirubin-induced neurotoxicity, hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy, neonatal neurosonography, and hearing impairment in high-risk neonates. His research on neonatal auditory evoked responses supported the later integration of newborn hearing screening into national child health programs.
Dr. Gupta has also made important translational contributions to maternal–neonatal care through large-scale PMTCT and pediatric HIV initiatives in Delhi, for which he received the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – Dr. M. K. Sheshadri Award (2014).
Across four decades, his work reflects a sustained commitment to physiology-driven, evidence-based neonatology, with emphasis on early recognition of pattern of clinical symptoms/ signs, time-critical decision-making, and translation of clinical research into practical bedside care with population-level impact.
