About
Dr. Usha Swaminathan is a Professor at the School of Social Sciences and Languages at Vellore Institute of Technology, India. She pursued her bachelor’s and master's in law from Osmania University, Hyderabad, followed by her Ph.D. in the Protection of Traditional Knowledge of Bioresources from Vellore Institute of Technology. Her other interests were knowing the impact of law on English Literature, and she studied Franz Kafka’s works. Apart from academic excellence, she has rendered her service as an advocate at the High Court of Andhra Pradesh (Now Telangana State) and is a Life Member of the HC Bar Council Association, Telangana State. She has also actively participated in child rights in association with M Venkatarangaiya Foundation (MV Foundation) under the mentorship of Prof. Shanta Sinha (Magsaysay Awardee and recipient of Padma Shree). Her experiences in research for nearly two decades consist of multidisciplinary research publications in the form of book chapters and journal publications, such as Intellectual Property; the protection of biodiversity; food laws related to health, packaging and labeling standards. Her publications with Elsevier, Springer Nature and other reputed journals have seen good citations. Her international networking has involved giving plenary talks on IPR, International Trade in Indonesia on various occasions, mentoring lawyer from Latin America, collaborative publications from the Philippines, collaborative project grant on intellectual property law with the UK, an international project grant from Japan on Biodiversity Protection, as a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok; and University of Poitiers, France during 2024
