About

Dr. Beena Pillai completed her schooling in Kerala and graduated in Microbiology from Ruia College, Mumbai followed by PhD from IISc, Bangalore. She is presently a Chief Scientist at CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, Delhi. Her lab works on understanding the role of long non-coding RNAs in the nervous system, polyglutamine disorders like SCA-17 and earthworm regeneration. She has been recognized with several national awards for her contributions in the area of gene regulation in the brain.

She is not just a passionate scientist but also a committed science communicator and has been instrumental in using innovative digital means to make scientific research accessible to school and college students through seminars, innovative hands-on sessions and virtual lab visits.
