Dr. Nitin completed his DM & Post Doctoral Fellowship in Endocrinology at CMC, Vellore. He then completed his PhD research on community and hospital-based cohorts to study the clinical and genetic indicators of obesity at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
He has been cited as among the top 2% of most influential researchers across the world by Stanford University, USA, in October 2023,2024 and 2025. He has also been conferred with several awards including the prestigious AR Seth gold medal by the Endocrine Society of India(2020), The young investigator award by the Sri Lankan Endocrine Society(2019), Melbourne Research Scholarship (2016 - 2020), The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR University Gold Medal in Endocrinology(2015), AV Gandhi award for Excellence in Endocrine research(2014), The IJEM Award for Excellence in Endocrine writing(2014) and several others. More recently, he was also awarded the President’s award of appreciation by the Endocrine Society of India for his contributions to the society in 2022 and the best mentor award by the Director of Christian Medical College, Vellore for his mentorship in the year 2023-2024.
He has more than 500 PubMed-indexed, peer-reviewed publications in national and international journals, and his keen area of interest is in the field of obesity and metabolic syndrome, Pituitary disorders, and Metabolic Bone Disease. He has spearheaded the write-up and is editor of the current and the previous two editions of the book “A Practical Guide to Diabetes Mellitus,” released in June 2024. He has also been the section editor of the Obesity section of Endotext – The PubMed-indexed endocrine textbook since 2022. Currently also the Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Journal of Obesity, Senior Editor for Endocrine Connections(The official Journal of the European Society of Endocrinology), and Associate Editor of Clinical Obesity (The official Journal of World Obesity Federation) and Associate Editor of International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries. Dr Nitin is also an elected Executive committee member of the governing council of The Endocrine Society of India (2022-28), All India Association for Advancing Research in Obesity (2022-27) and the Honorary joint secretary of The Indian Society of Bone and Mineral Research(2023-2025). More recently, he has also been elected as the Chair of the Education working group of the International society of Endocrinology.
He was also awarded the prestigious The Rev. Fr. Lourdu M. Yeddanapalli S.J Award for his outstanding contributions for excellence in research at Christian Medical College, Vellore in November 2025.
