About
Dr Shilpa Rajkumar is a nanophotonics researcher with a PhD in Physics. Her research focuses on photonic crystals, photoplasmonic metasurfaces, multilayer optical systems and resonant light–matter interactions. She uses finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) and transfer-matrix methods (TMM) to investigate photonic band gaps, Bloch surface waves, plasmonic radiative-loss suppression, high-Q resonances and multispectral perfect absorbers.
Her experimental experience includes designing nanophotonic experiments, assisting with multilayer and metasurface fabrication, and characterising devices using UV–Vis spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry, SEM and AFM. She is currently implementing a semiclassical two-level Maxwell–Bloch formulation within FDTD to model density-matrix dynamics and the nonlinear optical response of VO₂ for active and tunable nanophotonic systems.
