About
I am working as an Associate Professor at the Post-Graduate Department of Biotechnology, Progressive Education Society’s Modern College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Ganeshkhind, Pune, India and a Visiting Faculty at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Savitribai Phule University, Pune, India.
I completed my Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Savitribai Phule Pune University (Formerly University of Pune) in 2009, and for that I worked on metabolic engineering of rice for improved salinity tolerance.
I have published over 40 peer reviewed research/ review articles, edited four books for Springer Nature and Wiley and contributed 20 book chapters in edited books published by Wiley, Springer, CRC Press and Elsevier etc.
I am a recipient of Government of India’s Science and Engineering Board, Department of Science and Technology (SERB-DST) Young Scientist Award in 2011.
My current research interests include elucidating molecular mechanisms underlying environmental stress responses and tolerance in plants especially salinity stress and particularly at transciptional and post-transcriptional levels . My research group is engaged in assessing the individual roles and relative importance of sodium and chloride ions under salinity stress in rice and made significant contributions in elucidating the individual and additive (under NaCl) effects of sodium and chloride ions. We are engaged in identifying sodium and salt-responsive miRNAs from major crops, and identifying/characterizing their targets besides functional validation of the miRNAs and their targets.
The other major area of research include antimicrobial resistance in nosocomial and community settings, identifying underlying molecular mechanisms of resistance and targeting them with phytochemicals and biogenic functionalized nanomaterials .
