RAMESH KUMAR GUDURU
Also known as: Ramesh K. Guduru, R. K. Guduru
Lamar University, CSqaured Innovations Inc., North Carolina State University, University of Michigan Dearborn
About
Dr. Guduru did research on developing small scale specimen testing techniques for mechanical property characterization of nanomaterials. He is one of the pioneers in the field of small scale specimen testing techniques, especially shear punch test (SPT), to propose a new criterion for obtaining yield strength from the shear curves irrespective of the specimen and test setup dimensions/geometries used. His journal article (Mater. Sci. Engr. A, 395 (2005) 1-2, p.307) is one of the highly cited publications in the area. He is the very first researcher ever to conduct the mechanical property characterization of bulk amorphous and nano materials/alloys in a complex and multi-axial state of stress. As a result his international publications in these areas (eg: Intermetallics 14 (2006) 12, p. 1411; and Mater. Sci. Engr. A, 463(2006) 1-2, p. 14) received several citations and significance. He is the pioneer to develop strain rate sensitivity, stress relaxation testing, activation volume measuring methods on SPT, and also the first researcher ever in the world to implement those methodologies on the nano materials to understand their fundamental characteristics, such as dislocation density and dislocation dynamics in the nano materials during deformation as well as their grain size dependent behavior (see detailed Curriculum Vitae for publications). He has also extended his research on understanding the strengthening of nanomaterials with reducing their grain size, and also strengthening/softening phenomenon of solid solutions and composites at nano scale in presence of hard and soft phases in nano Fe.
For the past several years his research has focused in the areas of nanotechnology based sensors, energy systems, materials processing and development of innovative manufacturing technologies. He has four international patents filed in the areas of sensors and innovative manufacturing technologies on energy materials. He has developed an E-Coli sensor with capability to detect/sense the E-Coli bacteria within the first two minutes of incubation period. Another one of his innovative sensing technologies is in the area of detection of oil qualities using optical based methods to determine the physical and chemical degradation in different applications (eg: machinery, engines, large cooking places, fast food chains etc.). His research in the area of energy storage sector/batteries/supercapacitors resulted in two international patents with innovative manufacturing technologies that could enhance the industrial manufacturing cost savings on a large scale compared to the existing state of-the-art in the industries. His research encompasses developing innovative methods for the fabrication of electrode materials (eg: LiCoO2, Co3O4, Mn2O3, Ag coated Si anode, and Na0.44MnO2 etc.) for Lithium, Sodium ion batteries, supercapacitors, sensors, optoelectronic materials (eg: ZnO and CdS) via chemical methods and additive manufacturing techniques. He has research experience/expertise in the area of developing nanostructures via laser assisted manufacturing technologies also (eg: E-Coli sensor). His research expertise is very wide and internationally recognized with several publications in the high impact factor journals and citations. For more details, please refer to the detailed CV.
