His research Interests are Similarity transformations method, Similarity reductions and Exact solutions of non linear differential Equations. He holds some administrative posts at VBS Purvanchal University Jaunpur like Coordinator, Technical cell, Coordinator of a Free Coaching "Prerna" which is running in nearby villages of the VBS Purvanchal University Jaunpur to upgrade the knowledge of financially weak children w.e.f. Sept. 2014, Deputy Coordinator of a committee constituted for making proposal and implementation for “स्वच्छ भारत अभियान” of Govt. of India in the locality of the VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur w.e.f. 29/05/2015; Programme Officer, NSS unit-III of Faculty of Engineering w.e.f. 16/09/14 for three years. He organised One day workshop on ‘National Science Day (NSD-2014)’ on the occasion of National Science day, 28 Feb. 2014 as Co-Convener. Dr. Raj received some awards & Honours as he availed National scholarship during 1991-92, awarded first position at college level in 10th class, got distinction in English, Science and Mathematics (10th class), and in Physics & Mathematics (12th Class), in Mathematics (B.Sc.) finally in 5 papers (M.Sc.).
his national level achievements are Qualified LS (Dec’2000), JRF (June’2000), JRF (Dec’2001) and LS (June’2006) of National Eligibility Test (CSIR- UGC) in Mathematical Sciences. Moreover qualified GATE-2000 with Percentile score 96.02 and All India Rank 30 in Mathematics, GATE-2001 with Percentile score 86.61 and All India Rank 117 in Mathematics
He has membership of Professional Bodies as life Member Ship of Indian Mathematical Society, annual membership of World Physics Association (WPA) from NOV. 2015 to DEC. 2016 . A UGC XII plan funded one week Lecture series entitled* “Numerical Techniques and Programming in MATLAB” during 22-28th July, 2016; (iii) A UGC funded one week workshop “Numerical Computation Using MATLAB” was organised as Convener during 26-30 November, 2015 jointly by the Departments of Mathematics & Computer Science and Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Tech. VBS PU Jaunpur; (iv) A self finance workshop on “Better Engineer” was organized as Co–Convener in the VBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur during 10-13 November, 2010. During this lecture series two E-Modules were developed covering the syllabus of two units of Numerical techniques of Mathematics-III paper of B. Tech courses. Dr. Raj Kumar played his invaluable role for successful completion of the lecture series. Dr. Kumar is member of some Editorial Boards as in Computers & Mathematics with Applications (Elsevier), Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, and in The Asian Journal of Mathematics (A Journal by the International Press) . He is working as Head, Department of Mathematics, March 2004–January 2010, January 2014–till date, Assistant Dean of Students Welfare, since Oct., 2014, Convener, Board of Studies, Department of Mathematics, March 2004–January 2010, Member, B. Tech. Entrance Test Committee, since 2005–2006, Coordinator, B. Tech. OBC Scholarship Cell, September 2004–January 2010, Assistant Proctor, University Campus Proctor Board, since 2007–till date. His number of SCI / non SCI Publications are 10.
