Dr. J. Suresh Kumar is an accomplished academician, researcher, and administrator currently serving as Associate Professor in Economics at St. Joseph University, Nagaland. With over 17 years of teaching experience across school, college, and university levels, and 13 years of research expertise, he has made substantial contributions to Agricultural Economics, Labour Economics, Industrial Economics, Development Economics, and Entrepreneurship.
He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Periyar University and has developed a strong research profile focusing on youth unemployment, women empowerment, MSMEs, financial inclusion, agricultural development, and sustainable economic growth, particularly in the context of North-East India.
Dr. Kumar has an extensive publication record comprising 90 research articles in peer-reviewed and UGC CARE-listed journals. In addition, he has authored 7 books, edited 4 books, and contributed over 50 book chapters published by reputed national and international publishers. He has also actively presented 73 research papers at national and international conferences and seminars.
He plays a significant role in academic publishing and research promotion, serving as Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor, and Editorial Board Member for several reputed journals across economics and management disciplines. He is also the former State President (Nagaland) of the Education Research and Development Association (ERDA) and contributes to research quality enhancement through editorial and indexing platforms.
At the institutional level, Dr. Kumar serves as the Convener of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at St. Joseph University and has previously held key administrative roles such as IQAC Coordinator and Acting Principal. He has organized and coordinated numerous seminars, workshops, faculty development programmes, and training sessions, contributing to academic excellence and innovation.
He continuously upgrades his academic and research competencies through participation in UGC-MMTTC refresher courses, faculty induction programmes, AICTE FDPs, and specialized training programmes in research methodology, data analysis, and innovation.
A committed educator and researcher, Dr. Suresh Kumar strives to advance inclusive development, sustainable economic growth, and evidence-based policymaking, with a special focus on emerging and underdeveloped regions.
