About
Dr. S. Prabhath Ranjan Kumar is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Sustainable Technologies, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, with a research focus on sustainable construction materials, self-healing cementitious systems, and low-carbon technologies for infrastructure development.
His doctoral work contributed significantly to the development of bio-based self-healing mortar using microbially induced calcite precipitation (MICP), where he investigated the role of indigenous bacterial strains in enhancing the durability and service life of cementitious materials. Currently, his postdoctoral research at IISc involves advanced studies in 3D concrete printing, carbon sequestration techniques using CO₂ curing, and the use of supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash and GGBS for developing climate-resilient and eco-friendly construction systems.
With over four years of teaching experience as an Assistant Professor at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology (SKCET), Coimbatore, Dr. Kumar has a strong academic foundation. He has mentored graduate and doctoral students, contributed to curriculum development, and played an active role in research supervision, laboratory operations, and project management.
He has authored and reviewed several peer-reviewed journal publications in the field of sustainable construction and materials science. His research interests span bio-cementation, digital fabrication of construction materials, carbon-negative technologies, and durability enhancement of earthen and cement-based structures.
