About
Dr. Iheme is a Professor of Law at O.P Jindal Global University (JGU). He studied Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Benin, and later acquired Masters (2013) and Doctorate (2016) degrees, with a specialization in Int’l Business Law, from Central European University. He has held visiting research and teaching posts at various institutions including the Cornell University, Strathmore University, UNIDROIT, and UNCITRAL. He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Nigerian Supreme Court, and practiced law for a number of years in top commercial law firms in Lagos where he provided reliable and authoritative advice on several aspects of commercial law. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in the United Kingdom.
Dr. Iheme teaches and publishes broadly in all aspects of commercial law, but more extensively in the areas of secured transactions, corporate insolvency, contract law, company law, and retention of title financing: he teaches these subjects both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is the author of the Scopus-indexed book entitled Towards Reforming the Legal Framework for Secured Transactions in Nigeria, Springer, 2016, https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-319-41836-0), which heralded the 2017 reform of Nigeria’s secured transactions law. He has authored more than twenty journal articles that are indexed either in the Web of Science or Scopus: he welcomes proposals from potential supervisees interested in carrying out research in the field of commercial law.
Dr. Iheme serves as a member of the JGU Doctoral Committee and has been involved in policy-related projects at the University. He regularly attends academic conferences and seminars where he presents works-in-progress. He is also interested in human rights law and has published some journal articles that fiercely addressed the intractable problems of racism and unjust incarceration of Black people in the United States.
