About
I am AcSIR (India) -RMIT (Australia) cotutelle enrolled PhD student and my research area is preparation of ion exchange membranes and it's application in electrodialysis (ED) and diffusion dialysis (DD), still my more focus of research is preparation bipolar membranes (BPMs) and its application for production of acid-alkali from corrosponding organic-inorganic salts via bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BMED). the synthesis of BPMs are carried out using layer-by-layer simple and cost effective method that synthesized BPMs should be chemically stable over the entire pH range. The prepared BPMs should also be mechanically stable that no delamination or ballooning observed. The BPMs possess a unique composition of sandwiched ion exchange layers which are selective to specific ions, because of this selective properties AEL selective for anions with fixed positive charge and CEL selective for cations with fixed negative charge. BPMs hold significant place in the field of membrane science and technology which have enormous applications on industrial and technical impacts. The water dissociation takes place at the bipolar junction (AEL and CEL are in contact), the splitted ions (H+ and OH-) migrates towards cathode and anode respectively. BMED is generally fusion of bipolar membrane with conventional electrodialysis. BMED is bipolar membrane separation technology which has the general purpose of production of acid-alkali from aqueous salt solution with lower energy cost and also no production of any gases (O2 and H2). Due to superiority of BMED than conventional electrodialysis, it has been paid more attention in terms of industrial, economic, academic and technical aspects. The aim of this research is to develop BPMs with different interfacial layer and also the study the effect of reduction in thickness of AEL on water splitting performance. The fabrication of BPMs having higher ionic conductivity, higher water splitting efficiency and lower co-ion leakage. The dissociation of different organic-inorganic salts into corresponding acid-alkali using fabricated BPMs via BMED process are carried out.
