About

Research Interest: Proteomics based approaches to understand lactation and related disorders in bovine. Mass spectrometry based identification and MRL determination of residual veterinary drugs and pesticides in milk of bovine species is one of the areas of our research programs. We are specialized in molecular cloning, protein expression and purification in a wide range of hosts like bacteria, yeast and mammalian cell lines which are subjected to Cell culture based functional characterization. Strength: High throughput nano LC Mass spectrometry based proteomics, targeted quantitation of drugs and pesticides in milk and mammalian cell culture based assays.

3. We successfully developed a mammary gland epithelial cell line from buffalo in the year 2011. This was first time that a buffalo origin cell line was made available to the scientific community. Private organizations are interested in purchasing the rights to sale it. However, we are committed to offer the cell line free of cost in the interest of “Open Access science to everyone”. 4. We discovered more than 1550 proteins in the urine of cow (Karanfires breed). That sets a benchmark in the use of high throughput Mass spectrometry to discover biomarkers in biological fluids. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26021477)
5. We are working in the area of urine based biomarker discovery for early detection of pregnancy in cows. In this direction we have published a list of potential biomarkers for pregnancy diagnosis in clinical proteomics journal. 6. We have developed skin melanocyte cell line from indigenous cows (Tharparkar breed). It helped us to understand the molecular mechanism behind the heat induced stress on skin. Further research using this cell line will bear immense implication on human skin to address allergy, aczema, cancer and stress related pathophysiology. 7. We have produced recombinant Interferon tau (IFN-τ), Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF), oviductin, gastrin releasing peptide (GRP) and fibulin5 like molecules from buffalo. All these molecules have diverse applications in regulating production and reproductive traits of the dairy animals. 8. A replicase based DNA vaccine has been developed against Canine Distemper in pups which shows immunological response at a dose 100 times lower than that of normal DNA vaccine. It lowers the cost of immunization and hence practically more feasible for pet owners
