Professor Ts. Ir. Dr. Kumaran a/l Kadirgama, CEng (UK), P.Tech (Malaysia), FIAAM, is a Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA). He is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in advanced materials, sustainable energy systems, additive manufacturing, and nanofluid-based heat transfer technologies.
He has been consistently listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Stanford University, 2021–2025) and was honoured as a Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM) in 2023. His research output includes more than 400 indexed publications, an impressive Scopus h-index of 51, and over 9,600 citations, reflecting a sustained impact in materials and energy research.
Professor Kumaran has led or co-led research projects exceeding RM8.9 million, supported by national and international agencies, focusing on MXene nanomaterials, hybrid nanofluids, hydrogen energy systems, and additive manufacturing for thermal management applications. He is also an inventor with several granted patents related to nanocomposite phase change materials and hybrid coolant systems.
Beyond research, he contributes to the global academic community as Editor-in-Chief of The Nexus of Sustainability and Energy Technology Journal (Elsevier), Guest Editor for several Scopus-indexed journals, and Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) for Chapter 10 (Industry) in the IPCC AR7 Working Group III Report.
Professor Kumaran is a Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng, UK) with memberships in IMechE, ASME, ACPE, and BEM. He has served as keynote speaker and visiting professor at leading institutions across Europe, India, Japan, South Africa, and the Middle East, advancing knowledge transfer and sustainable engineering practices globally.
His current research aims to bridge nanomaterial innovation, energy transition, and artificial intelligence applications in thermal and energy systems, driving the next generation of sustainable technologies.
