About
I am currently working on seaweed product development and commercialization using innovative and strategic technologies complying with regulatory regimes. Also holds an Adjunct Professor position at DBT-ICT Centre for Energy Biosciences, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. Prior this, I worked in various capacities at CSIR-Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute for more than two decades exclusively on marine macroalgae (seaweeds) for their cultivation, utilisation, societal outreach etc. My core expertise lies in cellular biotechnology of seaweeds for genetic improvement and the micro-propagation of economically important seaweeds. My early research contributions to cellular biotechnology demonstrated the feasibility of developing improved seaweeds for commercial applications. In recent times, the research interests were further diversified to develop sustainable farming technologies integrated with the downstream process to harness the full potential of seaweeds for food, feed, chemicals and fuel applications in the biorefinery model. The biorefinery models demonstrated at the lab scale for various groups of seaweeds offer scope for scaling up studies. I have had a very long successful career rewarding several recognitions. I hold a distinguished track record with established scientific credentials in S&T authoring 90+ publications in SCI journals of high repute, several book chapters, 3 patents and 3 edited books. My research works have undoubtedly contributed to the advancement of phycological research at the national and international levels.
