About
Samudra Pal is a molecular biologist and genomics researcher based in West Bengal, India, with expertise spanning cytogenetics, reproductive genomics, and life sciences education. He is currently affiliated with the Department of Biotechnology, School of Life Sciences, Swami Vivekananda University (Barrackpore, West Bengal), where he contributes to research, teaching, and institutional quality assurance including NAAC accreditation activities. He also holds a research association with the Cytogenetics & Genomics Research Unit, Department of Zoology, University of Calcutta.
Samudra's primary research focus is the genetic basis of male infertility, with a particular emphasis on identifying novel mutations and polymorphisms in spermatogenic regulator genes among Bengali-speaking men from West Bengal. His case-control studies — conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Reproductive Medicine (IRM), Kolkata — employ Sanger dideoxy sequencing, quantitative RT-PCR, and in silico analysis to characterize variants in genes critical to meiosis, synaptonemal complex formation, and transcriptional regulation of spermatogenesis.
Beyond reproductive genomics, Samudra has a growing interest in neurodegenerative disease biology, particularly the molecular underpinnings of Down syndrome — including ncRNA-mediated regulation, epitranscriptomics, and liquid biopsy-based biomarker discovery in DS-associated conditions. He submitted a competitive MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship proposal (project: GLIDE) through Sapienza University of Rome, which earned an outstanding score of 91.8% and the EU Seal of Excellence, reflecting the international calibre of his research vision. He is currently pursuing the Sapiexcellence 2026 fellowship as a bridge opportunity.
Samudra is committed to integrating high-quality research with education and institutional development, and brings a multidisciplinary perspective to the life sciences — from bench-level molecular work to accreditation-level institutional stewardship.
