About
Professor Radhakrishnan began his professional journey as a resident oral pathologist at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal, in 1996, and has steadfastly served academia for more than 27 years. He is the first faculty member from the Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal to be awarded PhD. His doctoral research focused on the "Molecular Pathogenesis of Oral Cancer by Epigenetic Mechanisms," with support from the Manipal Foundation. Professor Radhakrishnan has made significant contributions to the field, including a chapter in Shafer's Textbook of Oral Pathology, 150 published research papers, 10 government-funded projects, 5 PhD and 12 master’s students’ supervision.
Professor Radhakrishnan's research earned him the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship for his work on "Understanding the Functional Role of Retinoic Acid Receptor Beta2 in the Development of Oral Cancer”. He is also the recipient of Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Intermediate Career Fellowship, focusing on "Epithelial Reprogramming of HOX Genes by Epigenetic Mechanisms and its Implications for Oral Cancers.
His academic contributions have conferred upon him a Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists and admission as a Fellow of Dental Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
As the Deputy Director of Research, he developed the research policy for MAHE, Manipal. In his capacity as Director of International Collaborations, he has fostered over 80 academic and research collaborations globally.
Professor Radhakrishnan is committed to addressing oral health priorities, particularly among vulnerable adolescents and young individuals. He is currently teaching appointed the Professor of oral biology and oral pathology at Oman Dental College, Muscat.
