About
Dr. Munish Kumar obtained his Master’s degree in Computer Science & Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, India in 2008, and subsequently earned his Ph.D. from the same institute in 2015. He is currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computational Sciences at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, Punjab, India. With a distinguished academic record, Dr. Kumar has authored six books, secured five patents, and published over 160 research articles in reputed international journals and conference proceedings. His research has received more than 10,000 citations on Google Scholar, reflecting its significant impact and recognition in the academic community. His work appears in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and prestigious conference proceedings of IEEE, ACM, and Springer. Dr. Kumar has successfully supervised nine Ph.D. scholars and is currently mentoring six more. His primary research interests include character recognition, handwriting recognition, computer vision, machine learning, and pattern recognition. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to research and education, Dr. Kumar has been honored with the Panjab University Shiv Nath Rai Memorial Mid-Career Best Scientist Award (2023), the IETE–Biman Bihari Sen Memorial Award (2024), and the prestigious ISTE Best Teacher Award (2025).
