Biography of Prof. Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Former-Pro-Chancellor, SGT University, Gurugram (Ex Vice-Chancellor, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Saveetha Nagar, Thandalam, Chennai, and Director (Retd.), Defence Food Research Laboratory, Mysore, Karnataka).

Prof Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma did his M. Pharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Panjab University, Chandigarh. He did Two years PG Diploma in Business Management from Punjabi University, Patiala. He holds his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Delhi. On 15th February 2020, D.Sc. (Honoris Causa) has been conferred on him by Dr. K.N. Modi University, Newai, Tonk, Rajasthan.

He is an Elected Fellow of the Institution of Chemists (India), the Indian Association of Biomedical Scientists, the Society of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, the Indian College of Nuclear Medicine, the Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India), and the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India).

He has a total Academic and Professional Experience of ~42 years and retired as Director of, the Defence Food Research Laboratory, DRDO, Mysore, Karnataka. Dr Sharma holds the appointment of Adjunct Professor of Jamia Hamdard in the Department of Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Honorary Professor in Food Processing and Preservation, Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. While working in DRDO, Dr Sharma has made significant contributions to CBRN defense, the development of New Drugs, Novel Drugs Delivery Systems, Herbal Radioprotectors, Herbal Biothreat Mitigators, and Nutraceuticals. He has guided 13 Ph.D. students.

Dr Sharma has received various National and International Awards. He is a member of Expert /Core Groups of many ministries of the Government of India.

Dr Sharma has filed 20 patents and published 375bpapers, contributing 58 chapters in books and editing 17 books.
