Dr. Subhasis Bhadra is a professor of Psychiatric Social Work and Head of the Department of Psychosocial Support in Disaster Management at NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences), Bengaluru, India. Dr. Bhadra completed a Masters of Social Work from Vidyasagar University, West Bengal and holds an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Psychiatric Social Work from NIMHANS. He started teaching in 2009 at Assam Central University and subsequently taught at Gautam Buddha University, Greater NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh, and Central University of Rajasthan, India. Dr. Bhadra started his professional career in 2001 when he joined OXFAM -India as a project coordinator for the Gujarat earthquake rehabilitation project. He subsequently worked in various disaster-affected areas in India and other Asian countries (Indonesia, Srilanka, Myanmar, Mongolia, Japan, and China) through different organizations, namely, Care India, American Red Cross, Action Aid, International Medical Corps, and International Federation of Red Cross. He has worked on gender issues in disasters and also undertook different research projects to strengthen gender equity-focused interventions. Currently, Dr Bhadra is engaged as a Consultant with ECHO India in a Gender Equity pilot project in Schools. He has completed a number of research and consultancy projects supported by NCW, SILF, IFRC, Discipleship Center, and other national and international organizations. Dr Bhadra is a member of the Working Group for the formation of the Curriculum on “Foundation Course on Disaster Management.” (2020-21) and also a member of the Core Group Committee for the “Development of Teaching module on Foundation Course Curriculum on Disaster Management” (8th Aug 2022) constituted by NIDM. His research interests include peacebuilding, psychosocial support, disaster mental health, child and adolescent mental health, gender justice, and sustainable development. Five candidates completed Ph.D. research under his supervision. In his credit there are 45 academic articles, 48 book chapters, and 2 books, 1 edited volume.
