Dr. Sanjeev Rastogi is MD in Kaya Chikitsa (Ayurvedic medicine) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India and PhD (Ayurveda) from Lucknow University, India. He additionally posses Diploma in Yoga (BHU), Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine(China), PG Diploma in Health and Hospital Management (IGNOU) and Green Health Care leadership (USA). Dr. Rastogi has a rich experience of working in various capacities with responsibilities like patient care, teaching, research and administration. He had worked as Director, Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidhyapeeth, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi (2014-2016). Until now he worked as Professor and Head, Dept of Kaya Chikitsa, State Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Lucknow. After superannuation in 2024, he is currently working to establish benchmarks in clinical practice and research in Ayurveda in his individual capacity.
Dr. Rastogi is known for his exemplary scientific writing in national and international health research journals. He is one among the most prolific authors in Ayurveda and currently holds highest number of research publications by anyone having an Ayurveda affiliation in the country. Besides promoting for practice of evidence based Ayurveda, he is also engaged in the reform of Ayurveda on contemporary lines. In recognition of his works, he was awarded Chinese Govt. fellowship (1998); Luisa Kreisberg Family Foundation Scholarship (2008) from Teleosis Institute, California; Consumer Wellness Center Nutritional Grant Award consecutively for 2 years (2008 , 2009) from CWC, Arizona, USA; and Robert Bosch foundation award (2010). Dr Rastogi had won thrice, the international travel grant awards, from UGC (2010, 2014) and from Ministry of AYUSH, India (2012) to present his Ayurveda research at international forums.
Dr. Rastogi has over 150 research publications in national and international journals. He is also credited for authoring and editing over 12 books and over 25 chapter contributions in books from international publishers (Springer Nature, Nova, Taylor & Francis). He is on the editorial boards of many prestigious national and international journals ( Springer, Elsevier, Frontier, Oxford, Francis and Taylor, Brill) related to Ayurveda and CAM and is Editor in Chief to ‘Annals of Ayurvedic Medicine’ a peer reviewed quarterly journal published by Association of Ayurvedic Physicians of India (AAPI). He has been conferred IASTAM excellence in teaching award (2018) and has been designated as honorary advisor to Central Council of Tibetan Medicine, India (2019). He is pioneer in establishing Ayurvedic Rheumatology as a separate branch of study and practice in Ayurveda. As a result to his efforts, Govt of Uttar Pradesh has opened a specialized ‘Ayurveda -Arthritis Treatment and Advanced Research Center (A-ATARC)’ at State Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Lucknow in 2020. Seeing the success of his model of rheumatology practice in Ayurveda, now arthritis centers are opened up in all Govt Ayurveda colleges in Uttar Pradesh. For his contribution to Translational research in Ayurveda he was awarded with Translational Biomedical Research Society –India (TBRS) Award (2020) for “Research Excellence in Biomedical Sciences”.
Dr Rastogi has over 1500 international citations to his research publications. Two of his research papers have been cited for more than 200 times. He has h-index 17 and i10 index 43. He has recently been identified as among top 7% of leading researchers globally and among 5 % leading researchers working in the area of Allied Health Science. One of his publications on Covid-19 and Ayurveda is among top 1% researches across the world. Dr. Rastogi has been instrumental in initiating the project ‘Scaling Integrative Medicine Using Ayurveda and Yoga for Lymphatic Filariasis Morbidity management and disability prevention (LFMMDP) in India’ at Lucknow in collaboration with Institute of Applied Dermatology and funded by Bill Melinda Gate Foundation. He has also been the guide and co guide to over 20 MD researches and 4 PhD researches.
