About
Dr. NABI HASAN is Head Librarian at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, with over 31 years of leadership experience in academic and research libraries. He previously served as University Librarian at Aligarh Muslim University, overseeing one of India's largest library systems. He is India's first Norman E. Borlaug Fellow in Library Information Systems, trained at Cornell University, USA. An internationally recognized leader, Dr. Hasan is a Fellow of the Special Libraries Association (FSLA, 2022) and recipient of numerous global honours, including the Rose L. Vormelker Award (SLA USA, 2024), SLA Engineering Librarian of the Year (2021), Bonnie Hilditch International Librarian Award (2018), SLA Presidential Citation (2021), and the Royal Society of Chemistry Librarians Choice Award (2019). He has also received major Indian recognitions such as the SALIS National Best Librarian Award (2022) and the Life Time Achievement Award (2015). Dr. Hasan has held prominent professional leadership roles, including President of SLA Asia and its Academic & Education and Engineering Communities. He has served as Vice-President of IASLIC, Executive Member of ILA, Secretary of the Delhi Library Association, and Founder Joint Secretary of the Asian Library Association. He is currently Secretary, IFLA Science & Technology Libraries Section (2025-27), General Secretary of the Information and Communication Society of India (ICSI), and Chairman, ILA Sectional Committee on Engineering & Technology Libraries. A strong advocate of digital learning, he led India's National Resource Centre in Library & Information Sciences (MoE, ARPIT MOOCs) and delivered one of the country's most widely attended 16-week MOOCs on emerging library technologies. He also co-runs national MOOCs on Science Communication (NPTEL) and helped develop an international Open Science certificate course with University College London and SKS Germany. Dr. Hasan has contributed to 30+ national and international projects funded by organizations such as the US Department of State, World Bank, and European Union. He has chaired and co-chaired major international conferences, including SLA Annual Conferences (2024, 2025) and the NDLI-UNESCO International Symposium (KEDL 2019). As a PEC member of the One Nation One Subscription initiative and through other key roles in INDEST, eGranth, KrishiPrabha, KrishiKosh, River Ganga, NDLI, eSS Projects, etc., he has contributed significantly to shaping strategies to democratize access to global research resources and strengthen the Indian research ecosystem. He has traveled extensively across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America, and has numerous scholarly publications to his credit.
