About
Hi
I am Rakesh Chatterjee and I come form West Bengal India. I did my Post graduation from the University Of Burdwan in 2008 in the field of Biotechnology. Then I completed my Ph. D in Biochemistry from CSIR Indian institute Of Chemical Biology in the year 2017 under Dr Saumen Datta. My primary area of research has been on structural studies of Type Three Secretion System (TTSS) associated proteins and their biophysical characterization using X-ray crystallography. In this context metabolic pathway that indirectly or directly influences this virulence signalling system has also been a matter of great interest to study . On this note we studied the allosteric features of Phosphopantethiene adenylyltransferase, one of the rate limiting enzyme of pantothenate pathway that has roles in regulating Type three secretion system in enterobactericeae. In my first postdoc in NISER, DAE India, I was part of Dr Rudresh Acharya Lab group and co investigated about how E.coli resist Copper mediated peroxide toxicity in phagocytosed macrophages during infection. We used biophysical and structural studies using X -ray diffraction to understand this biological mechanism. Presently at Umea University, under the supervision of Ignacio Mir Sanchis, I am involved in understanding how host proteins are involved in regulation and transfer of MGE (mobile genetic element) in MRSA ( Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) in the context of providing antibiotic resistance. For this I am using X-ray crystallography and CryoEM technique as a part of structural studies. My interest has been on proteins with Rossmann fold and studying them structurally in microbial system. A brief idea about my work experience is described as follows:
1. Biological mechanism of microbial system involved in virulence
2. Protein signalling pathways in prokaryotes and their cross-talks
3. Protein crystallization and X-ray diffraction studies
4. Molecular characterization of hypothetical genes using computational, biophysical and biochemical approaches
5. Modelling Enzymatic mechanism and assay development
6. Metal ion homeostasis.
7. Generation of soluble Membrane protein complexes and membrane biology.
8. Bio engineering
9. DNA Binding protein and Antibiotic resistance in MRSA.
