About

Dr. Vishal Rajkumar Marathe is a Professor of Botany at N. E. S. Science College, Nanded, Maharashtra, with nearly two decades of experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, and academic administration. Throughout his academic career, he has maintained an excellent record. He obtained his M.Sc. (Botany) degree with Second Merit and was awarded the Ph.D. (Botany) degree in 2007 by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati.

Dr. Marathe has 19 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is a recognized Postgraduate Teacher and Ph.D. Research Guide of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University (SRTMU), Nanded. Under his supervision, two scholars have been awarded the Ph.D. degree, while eight research scholars are currently pursuing doctoral research in various fields of Botany. He has also served as a referee (external examiner) for the evaluation of Ph.D. theses submitted to various universities across Maharashtra, reflecting his expertise and recognition in botanical research.

His research interests include plant taxonomy, ethnobotany, medicinal plants, Indian Knowledge System (IKS), biodiversity conservation, pharmacognosy, natural products, riparian flora, pollination biology, and sustainable utilization of plant resources. He has made significant contributions to documenting and conserving plant diversity and indigenous botanical knowledge through research and publications.

Dr. Marathe has published more than 40 research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals and has authored five textbooks for undergraduate students. He is also working as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on research projects funded by various funding agencies. His research focuses on generating scientific knowledge while addressing issues related to biodiversity conservation, medicinal plants, and sustainable development.

He serves as the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Life Sciences and actively contributes to the scientific community through editorial work and peer review. He is an Invitee Member of the Board of Studies in Botany at SRTMU, Nanded, where he contributes to curriculum development and academic planning. He has also been elected as an Executive Council Member of the Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (IAAT) and is a life member of several national scientific, academic, and professional organizations.

An enthusiastic academician, Dr. Marathe has participated in more than 100 national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and faculty development programmes. He has delivered over 25 invited lectures as a resource person on topics related to botany, biodiversity, research methodology, medicinal plants, Indian Knowledge System, and higher education. He has successfully organized numerous workshops, conferences, and scientific events at his institution to promote research culture and academic excellence.

As a teacher, Dr. Marathe believes that education extends beyond classroom instruction. He is committed to nurturing scientific temperament, research aptitude, environmental awareness, ethical values, and life skills among students. His teaching approach emphasizes conceptual understanding, field-based learning, practical exposure, critical thinking, and inquiry-based education, inspiring students to explore the fascinating world of plants and contribute meaningfully to science and society.

Through his dedication to teaching, research, mentorship, and academic leadership, Dr. Vishal Rajkumar Marathe continues to make significant contributions to botanical education and research while inspiring the next generation of botanists and environmental scientists.
