About

The theme of my research is mother and child health which addresses the importance of maternal nutrition, with special reference to micronutrients and risk of developing metabolic/neurodevelopmental disorders in childhood and later life. At IRSHA, I initiated the work on pregnancy related disorders in collaboration with the clinicians from Bharati Hospital. The incidence of pregnancy complications are alarmingly increasing in developing countries like India making it an important health issue. However, the mechanisms responsible for the pathogenesis of these complications have not been completely understood. Our extensive studies have provided a working hypothesis i.e. altered metabolism of key micronutrients such as folic acid, vitamin B12 and omega 3 fatty acids in the mother can epigenetically program the fetus for risk of diseases at later ages. My group has received a large number of grants from DBT, ICMR and DST. I have published over 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored a number of book chapters. I am an Editorial board member of “Journal of Nutrition & Intermediary Metabolism”, ELSEVIER. I am a recipient of the Research Excellence Award for Developing Country Scientist, DOHaD, USA. I have been invited to deliver talks at International and National conferences.
