About

Professor Asgar Ali is a Distinguished Professor at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), UAE. Prior to joining UAEU, he was Professor of Sustainable Food Systems at the University of Nottingham, where he also served as Director of the Signature Strength in Food Resilience and Director of the internationally recognised Centre of Excellence for Postharvest Biotechnology (CEPB).

The CEPB is a global centre dedicated to advancing sustainable food systems through postharvest science, with a core mandate to reduce postharvest losses, improve shelf life, and enhance the nutritional quality of fruits and vegetables—key leverage points for strengthening food security, particularly in resource-constrained and climate-vulnerable regions.

Professor Ali’s expertise spans sustainable food systems, horticulture, crop science, postharvest and food technologies, and international agricultural research and education. His work adopts a multidisciplinary, One Health–aligned approach that integrates production, postharvest management, nutrition, and environmental sustainability to address global food security and resilience challenges
