About
Dr. Arivazhagan Natarajan is a Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT University) in Vellore, India. He has been teaching and researching at VIT University since 2007. Dr. Arivazhagan received his Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Production Engineering from the University of Madras in 2007. He received his MTech (Industrial metallurgy) from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal in 2002. Further, he received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, in 2007 in metal joining and high temperature corrosion behavior of weldment.
Research expertise: Prof Arivazhagan's research focused on developing similar and dissimilar weldments for producing strategic components in aerospace, defence, ship, and power plant applications. He also developed the components through wire arc additive manufacturing and investigated micro/macro homogeneity and other properties based on applications. Further, he was also working on developing the joining technology for metal-polymer hybrid joints. In addition, Dr. Arivazhagan and his team recently collaborated with DRDO scientists to develop the energy storage material for advanced concentrated solar power plant applications. Dr. Arivazhagan investigated the joining techniques for more than 20 high-performance-grade materials for many critical applications. In addition, he has good exposure to different welding techniques such as arc, high energy density, and solid-state welding processes. Dr. Arivazhagan guided/completed 15 Ph.D. scholars in the research area of metal joining and hot corrosion behavior of weldments. In addition, he published more than 200 + research articles in well-reputed peer-reviewed international journals.
Research Funding: Prof. Arivazhagan received funding from the Government of India under various agencies like DRDO, AR&DB, DST, etc. He has completed many funded projects worth approximately Rs. 3.00 crores.
