Dr. Ashish Karn is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies. He is a B.Tech from IIT Delhi in Mechanical Engineering in 2011, and an MS and PhD from University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2013, and 2016, both in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics. Currently, he is the recipient of numerous awards such as Early Career Research Award from Science and Engineering Research Board, DST, India and National Innovation Foundation. He is also a winner of nationwide Toycathon-2021 for his ideas on promoting Indigenous toys and games Industry in India. He was also awarded with several government awards during the pandemic crisis by different government agencies. He is also a recipient of Nation Builder Award by Rotary International for his excellence in teaching and engineering education. He was also awarded for his innovations during the recent pandemic crisis by different government agencies. His current research includes renenwable energy sources such as kinetic hydro power and small scale hydropower. He heads MultiPhase Flows Lab (anurl.in/mpfl), a research facility at UPES. Apart from education and the history of science, his technical research interests include experimental and computational thermal-fluid sciences and multiphase flows. He is the asociate editor of the SCOPUS-indexed 'Engineering' Journal and serves on the editorial board/ international advisory panel for several journals. He has published a total of 61 publications, including publications in SCI journals in the area of thermal-fluid sciences, many other copyright and patents. He is currently heading MultiPhase Flows Laboratory at University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, where he has been for last four years. Above all, he is an avid and innovative educator and proponent of active learning in education. He is also very actively involved in developing and proliferating novel pedagogical tools in engineering education in general, and in thermal-fluid sciences in particular. Recently, he has been granted a research grant by AICTE and Ministry of Education, GOI to conduct research into Indian knowledge systems. Know more about him at drkarnteaching.com or anurl.in/drkarn.
