About

Dr. De was born on 30th March, 1967 in West Bengal. He graduated in B.Sc.(Ag) Hons. from BCKVV, West Bengal and obtained his both M.Sc and Ph. D. Degree in Horticulture-Floriculture from IARI, Pusa, New Delhi, International Doctor of Literature (DIAMI) and D.Sc. (Honoris Causa) from International Agency for Standards and Rating. Presently, he is a Principal Scientist working at ICAR-NRC for Orchids, Pakyong, Sikkim. He has 26 years research and extension experiences in production and post-harvest technologies of horticultural crops of NEH Region and 4 years experience as Joint Director at ICAR, A.P. Centre. He has handled Nationally Funded Projects like NATP on ‘IPNS for Vegetable Production System’, Technology Mission on ‘HMNEH’, Mega Seed Project on flower crops and DUS Project on orchids. He has significant contribution on rejuvenation in citrus, Production technology in gerbera in NE regions, Round the year production of gladiolus in Tripura, in preparation of DUS Test Guidelines on Cymbidium, Dendrobium, Vanda, Cattleya, Phalaenopsis, Oncidium, Mokara and Paphiopedilum orchids, Evaluation and identification of hybrids of Cymbidium, Dendrobium, Vanda, Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Mokara, Oncidium and Aranda suitable for commercial cultivation for tropical and subtropical and temperate regions, standardization of potting mixtures of Cymbidium, Dendrobium, Vanda, Phalaenopsis, Oncidium and Cattleya, organic nutrient management in orchids, development of protocols of post-harvest technology of Cymbidium and Dendrobium orchids, drying techniques in orchid species and hybrids, packaging techniques of orchid spikes and florets and value addition to Single Use Plastics (SUP) with orchids. He has published 153 research papers and written 28 book chapters, 31 technical bulletins, 93 abstracts, 59 popular articles, 35 reports and 9 training manuals. He is the author of 22 popular books titled ‘Advanced Commercial Floriculture’, ‘Medicinal Herbs and Flowers’, ‘Post-harvest Technology of Flowers and Ornamental Plants’, ‘Handbook of Edible Fruits’, ‘Handbook of Vegetable Crops’, ‘Ornamental Crop Breeding’, ‘Value Addition in Flowers and Orchids’, Handbook of Gardening, ‘Nursery and Landscaping’ and ‘Production Technology of Commercial Flowers’, ‘Production of Seed and Planting Material of Horticultural Crops’ , ‘Commercial Orchids’ , ‘Year Round Production of Orchids’ and ‘Protected Cultivation of Ornamental Plants’, ‘Lawn Development and Management’, ‘Cultivation and Breeding of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants’, ‘Fundamentals of Horticulture’, ‘Growth and Improvement of Horticultural Crops’ and ‘Insect-pests, Diseases and Post-harvest Management of Horticultural Crops’, ‘Organic Farming-principles and practices’, ‘Floriculture and Landscape Gardening’, ‘Swachh Bharat-Modi’s Clean India Mission’, ‘Under-utilized and Exotic Horticultural Crops’ and ‘Value Addition in Horticultural Crops’ which have been well accepted as reference books in ICAR institutes, SAU’s in India and abroad.
