About

Dr. M. V. Ravibabu presently holds the position of Associate Professor and Head of the Center for Information and Communication Technology (CICT), SIRD/ETC Unit and Coordinator of Center of Excellancy in AI at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), a ministry under the Government of India, located in Hyderabad. Also, he serves as an associate faculty member in the CGARD department at NIRDPR. Before joining NIRDPR, Dr. Ravibabu garnered seven years of experience as a Professor & former Chair of the School of Civil Engineering at VIT University, Vellore. He earned his M.Tech in Remote Sensing from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, in 2003, and completed his Ph.D. in Geomatics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee in 2008. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted Postdoctoral Research at Monash University, Melbourne, from 2008 to 2009, and received the Endeavour Research Awards from the Australian Government. Dr. Ravibabu has diverse professional experience, including roles at the AP Forest Academy and positions as an Institute Fellow and Research Associate at IIT Roorkee. He has also worked as a Freelance Geospatial Consultant.

Dr. M. V. Ravibabu specializes in Geomatics applications for sustainable rural development, encompassing areas such as Geo-ICT, Geo-AI, energy, environment, agriculture, and climate change. He has been recognized with various awards, including the MHRD Institute Fellowship for Doctoral Research, the Endeavour Award for Postdoctoral Research, ARCNESS-Australia, IALE-Netherlands, and CSIR. He has received the DST Young Scientist award for both Project and travel grant. Notably, Dr. Ravibabu has consistently earned research awards from 2009 to 2016 at VIT University for his publications and projects. His contributions extend to preparing the Self Study Report for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), USA, and developing project-based curricula for B.Tech Civil Engineering and M.Tech (Energy & Environmental Engineering) at VIT University. With a commendable mentoring record, he has guided 44 M.Tech and 4 Ph.D. thesis, with ongoing supervision at NIT Warangal and IIT Jodhpur. Dr. Ravibabu's prolific research output includes over 160+ publications (with cumulative impact factor 170+), comprising research papers in national and international journals, conferences, book chapters, and two authored books.

As a distinguished academic, Dr. M. V. Ravibabu has contributed significantly to the scholarly community. He served as a Guest Editor for Springer Nature (SN) Applied Sciences; Discover Earth Observation, assumed the role of Topic Editor for Sustainability Journals, Frontiers in Earth Science and acted as an Academic Editor for the Journal of PLOS Climate. Additionally, he is an Editorial Member for Nature – Scientific Reviews, International Journal of Mining and Geosciences and Earth and Planetary Science. Currently, he is a part of the Editorial Team for Drone Technology. Dr. Ravibabu serves as an esteemed editorial board member and reviewer for reputable international journals. His expertise extends to examination roles, having served as an examiner for M.Tech theses at Central Agriculture University, Meghalaya, NIT-Warangal, and S.V. University. He has also undertaken Ph.D. examinations for esteemed institutions such as Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and Monash University in Australia, as well as Andhra University and BIT Mesra, Manipal University, VIT University in India. Dr. Ravibabu is recognized as a Fellow of the Institution of India and holds Life Memberships in esteemed societies such as Remote Sensing, Geomatics, Indian Water Resources, and Indian Cartography Societies. Currently, he is actively involved in Ministry of Rural Development projects, including PMGSY Roads Monitoring, the establishment of CGARD centers in various African countries by MEA, ABIP by the Uttarakhand Government, and a Project on Hyperspectral - AVIRIS funded by ISRO. Co-PI of Australia – India Critical Mineral Research Hub, IIT Hyderabad.
