About
I am a thermal engineer who is working in the field of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. My area of interests are fluid dynamics, convective heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics, inverse heat transfer, electronic cooling devices, multi phase flows, turbulent flow and experimental fluid dynamics.
I have experience in operating commercial computational fluid dynamic software Ansys Fluent. I also developed inverse algorithms using programming language MATLAB. I have studied some complex convection-diffusion problems like impinging jets, flow through helical coils and turbulent mixing of two fluids at T-junctions. etc. I can simulate different cases of turbulent flows by solving Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. Apart from that, I can solve unsteady cases by solving unsteady RANS (URANS). I can solve the cases which include multi-phase interactions. Those cases I worked are usually encountered in HVAC, process industries, electronic cooling problems, heat exchangers etc. As an independent work, I did numerical analysis of heat transfer by multiple circular jets impinging over flat moving surface. The main purpose of this work is to study the influence of surface motion on heat transfer and associated flow field by multiple jet impingement. The surface motion affects local as well as average heat transfer and hence it is crucial in designing impinging jet system for different engineering applications as most of industries include moving target surface applications.
I served as junior research fellow and senior research fellow in Department of Science and Technology (DST) sponsored project at IITRAM, Ahmadabad. I got enrolled at the same institute as Ph. D. candidate having the same research topic. In my Ph. D. work, I developed inverse algorithms by using programming language-MATLAB. Those inverse algorithms are used for estimating the boundary heat flux/heat transfer coefficient, temperature profile of inaccessible regimes in flow, thermal contact conductance between two surfaces etc. Those inverse algorithms are useful for understanding the complex convection-diffusion problems.
My previous work was to study the heat transfer between multiple circular jets impinging over flat moving surface. The main purpose of that work was to study the influence of surface motion on heat transfer and the associated flow field by single and multiple circular jets impinging over that surface. The Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) based equations of turbulent flow were solved by using commercial computational fluid dynamics software ANSYS FLUENT. To calculate Reynolds stresses, shear stress transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model was used. After validation of given turbulence model, it was used for predicting the local and average heat transfer on target surface at different surface velocities. The associated flow field was also predicted. There was enough literature available on circular jet impinging on static surface. The flow field and heat transfer of circular jet impinging jet found complex during the analysis as surface motion accelerates the flow of wall jet in its motion direction and retards the flow in opposite direction. This leads to uneven local heat transfer. The surface speed also affects the stagnation region heat transfer. Also at the higher surface velocities, the surface is capable of drawing fluid by itself and there is no any influence of jet on heat transfer. For the multiple jet case, the spent flow interaction between two jets observed at lower surface velocities. The jet-to-jet spacing, effect of jet exit Reynolds number etc. studied in the numerical analysis. The current work is useful in designing the impinging jet system for heating/cooling/drying/baking purpose where target surface is moving. The previous work includes flat moving surface case while the current work includes curved moving surface. Like the previous work, the numerical analysis is going on prediction of heat transfer by multiple jets impinging over a rotating drum.
Future research of interests include:
(1) To conduct the transient analysis of impinging jets over moving surfaces by using unsteady RANS (URANS) approach, large eddy simulation (LES) or direct numerical analysis (DNS).
(2) To study the stability of jets impinging over moving surface.
(3) To design and develop experimental setup which can measure local and average heat transfer by impinging jets over moving surface.
(4) To study other complex convection-diffusion problems like flow through helical coils and turbulent mixing of two fluids at junctions.
