About

I was born on August 16, 1991 in small Town Salayish, Ethiopia. I began my primary education at Salayish primary school when I reached school age. Coming from farming family, I faced significant challenges due to limited access to educational materials and resources. Despite these constraints, I remained highly motivated and performed well academically. Through dedication and hard work, I successfully completed my primary education (Grade 1-8) with first in the class and overall school. I then joined Bitotessa-17 Secodary and preparatory School, where all subjects were delivered in English. Initially, adapting to this new learning environment was challenging. However, through persistence and strong commitment, I quickly improved my performance and consistently ranked among the top 5 students from same batch students (more than 300 students) from Grade 9 second semester to the end of Grade 12. After Completing Grade 12, I took the National University Entrance Examination and achieved a strong result, which enabled me to join Wollo University. Although, I was initially interested in the field of Agriculture, I later redirected my interest and passion toward Engineering because I recognized its broader potential to provide innovative, scalable, and technology-driven solutions to complex global challenges.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Kombolcha Institute of Technology, Wollo University, graduating on June 30, 2016. This foundational training provided me with solid knowledge in Thermodynamics, transport phenomena, reaction engineering, and process design. Motivated by a deep interest in Biochemical processes and sustainable technologies, I pursued a Master of Science in Biochemical Engineering at Addis Ababa University, where I graduated on December 24, 2020.
During my master’s studies, I focused on sustainable valorization of waste biomass into value-added and high-performance functional bio-based products. My thesis research involved the characterization and optimization of bio-insecticide extracted from cigarette waste, demonstrating my commitment to waste valorization and green technology. Through this work, I developed strong laboratory skills, experimental design competence, analytical techniques proficiency, and scientific writing experience.
Since May 2017, I have been serving as a lecturer and researcher at Mattu University. In this role, I teach core Chemical Engineering courses, supervise undergraduate research projects, and participate in curriculum development and academic leadership. My teaching experience has strengthened my ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly, while my research activities have expanded my interdisciplinary perspective in biochemical process, biomaterials and environmental remediation.
I have published peer-reviewed articles in areas including bioplastic reinforcement using banana cellulose fillers, rhodanese enzyme activity studies, toxic metal recoveries from electronic waste, water treatment analysis, and bio-insecticide characterization and production. These research experiences have enhanced my analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and scientific independence.
In addition to my academic qualifications, I have completed advanced training in data analysis and machine learning, enhancing my computational and analytical capabilities. I am proficient in Aspen Plus, MATLAB, Python and scientific research tools, which will support modeling, simulation, and data driven experimental optimization in my future researches.
As I progresses in my academic career, my research interests evolved toward advanced materials engineering and surface modification technologies. I became particularly interested in Plasma Science and Thin Film Technology due to their transformative application in material processing, nanostructure fabrication, biomedical coatings and semi-conductor devices. Specifically, I am interested in the development of nanostructured thin films for bio catalytic applications, with an emphasis on plasma-assisted deposition and advanced surface engineering techniques. I aim to achieve precise control over thin film morphology, composition, and interfacial properties at nanoscale to enhance active site availability, surface reactivity, and charge transport behavior. Through this approach, I seek to improve catalytic efficiency and performance for environmental remediation and healthcare applications.
Looking back on my life, I am proud of what I have accomplished and grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me. Through determination, hard work, and passion for learning, I have overcome numerous challenges and obstacles, and achieved my academic goals. Now, I am confident that with these qualities, I will continues to succeed in the future and make a positive impact in the world.
