About
Sarah Galloway is a medical student at the California University of Science and Medicine with a strong background in pathology, immunology, infectious disease, and medical education. She earned her B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Cal Poly Humboldt and recently completed a Post-Sophomore Fellowship in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University.
Before medical school, she trained in the laboratories of Dr. Irving Weissman (Stanford University) and Dr. Michal Tal (MIT), contributing to multiple publications in Nature Communications, Journal of Immunology, and mBio investigating host–pathogen interactions and the immunobiology of Lyme disease. Her research has focused on immune evasion mechanisms, chronic infection, and translational diagnostics, and she continues to collaborate with the Tal Research Group as a remote research scientist.
At CUSM, Sarah founded the Pathology Student Interest Group and co-developed the Laboratory Medicine Scholars Program. She also created the Pathology Simulation Workshop Series, an innovative medical education initiative recognized with the 2024 CAP Foundation Sparking Interest in Pathology Award. A manuscript describing this work is published in Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.
Her academic contributions have been recognized with multiple grants and awards, and she has presented her work at national and international meetings, including the College of American Pathologists Annual Meeting, the American Association of Immunologists, and the International Conference on Lyme Borreliosis.
Sarah intends to pursue a career in pathology and remains committed to medical education, mentorship, and promoting a deeper understanding of the pathologist’s role in patient care among trainees and colleagues.
