Dr. Gaurav K. Mishra is a senior scientist at the CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, and an ex-visiting scientist at the Field Museum, Chicago, U.S.A. Dr. Mishra, after obtaining a Master's degree in Botany from C.S.J.M. University, Kanpur, has pursued a Ph.D. from CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow. Dr. Mishra joined CSIR-NBRI as Project Assistant II in 2008 and still continues in the same institute.
Dr. Mishra is well known for his research work on lichen taxonomy, biodiversity, and biomonitoring studies. Dr. Mishra has successfully completed six research projects as a principal investigator and team member. Dr. Mishra first step into the realm of his research career is deeply acknowledged by a good number of publications in journals of national and international repute. Dr. Mishra has discovered more than ten taxa of lichens new to science, together with the addition of more than 50 lichens as new records to the Indian lichen flora. Dr. Mishra has handled 16 research projects as a principal investigator and team member. Currently, he is guiding four research scholars for their Ph.D. His outstanding contribution, collaboration, and capacity building in the field of lichenology in India earned him a reputed Fellow of the Association for Plant Taxonomy (APT), India; Fellow of Linnean Society of London (FLS); and Fellow of the Indian Lichenological Society (FILS), and he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Dharani Awasthi Award of the International Association for Lichenology (IAL) in the 8th IAL Symposium held in Helsinki, Finland, in the year 2016. Dr. Mishra has also been the recipient of several awards, such as the Best Innovative Paper Award (2011); the Young Scientist Award in the National Conference at Rewa (2013); the Young Scientist Award in the International Seminar at Bareilly (2019); the “ISEB Young Scientist” Award by the International Society of Environmental Botanists (2020), and the Best Scientist Award (2021) from the Nature Science Foundation (NSF) Coimbatore, TN. Dr. Mishra has awarded a six-month visiting scientist fellowship to do molecular work on lichen at The Field Museum in Chicago, U.S.A.
Dr. Mishra has delivered lectures at the International Symposium and Workshop of KoLRI on Asian Lichen Biodiversity and Usefulness at Sunchon National University, Sunchon, Korea (2016); the University of Malay in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2018); and the New York Botanical Garden, USA (2023). He was invited for talks by various institutes, universities, and colleges at different conferences and workshops. Dr. Mishra is a member of several societies at the national and international levels and reviews papers in reputed national and international journals. Currently, Dr. Mishra is the secretary and founder member of the Indian Lichenological Society.
