About
Dr. Ajit Kumar Savani is an alumnus of the prestigious Agricultural College, Bapatla, under Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University (Hyderabad), and currently headquarters at LAM, Guntur. He later pursued and completed his postgraduate studies at the College of Agriculture, Vellanikara, Thrissur, under Kerala Agricultural University.
Dr. Savani earned his Ph.D. (Agriculture) in Plant Pathology from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat. His doctoral research focused on diverse aspects of endophytes, with particular emphasis on endophytic community ecology and the management of biotic stresses mediated through endophytes and epiphytes.
From 2018 to 2020, he served as a Junior Research Fellow in a DBT-funded project titled "Screening of Banana Germplasm from North East India for Fusarium Wilt Resistance and Molecular Characterization in Contrasting Genotypes." During this period, he actively participated in the collection of banana germplasm from North Eastern states, screening for Fusarium wilt resistance, and conducting associated wet-lab studies on germplasm characterization.
Subsequently, he worked on climate change research under a DST-funded project at the ICRISAT–Centre for Excellence on Climate Change Research for Plant Protection at ICAR-IIRR, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. During this tenure, he gained significant expertise in the screening of germplasm against various soil-borne diseases such as Fusarium wilt (banana), sheath blight of rice (caused by Rhizoctonia solani), and rice blast (caused by Magnaporthe oryzae) under both glasshouse and field conditions.
Later, he joined ICAR-NAARM as a Research Associate under the ICAR-World Bank Funded NAHEP (National Agricultural Higher Education Project) Component 2, which focuses on strengthening leadership in agricultural higher education.
In March 2025, Dr. Savani took charge as an Assistant Scientist–Agricultural Research & Development under the Sustainable Impact through Rice-Based Systems project at the IRRI–South Asia Regional Centre, Varanasi. In this role, he was responsible for developing partnerships and engaging effectively with NARES partners to advance and disseminate innovative agricultural technologies. At present working as an Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology) at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay College of Horticulture & Forestry, Piprakothi, East Champaran (District), under the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar with the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Department of Agriculture Research & Education, Government of India
