About

Valentin Guignon pursued a diverse academic journey across several prestigious institutions, including ESIEE/ESTE, Politecnico di Milano, Seattle University, Université de Marne La Vallée, and Université de Montréal. He earned his Master of Science in Bioinformatics from the Université de Montréal in 2006.

Valentin embarked on his professional career in bioinformatics in 2007 at LIRMM (CNRS), where he contributed to the phylogeny.fr project. In 2008, he advanced his expertise by working on the GnpAnnot project at CIRAD. By 2010, Valentin had joined the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT as a bioinformatics specialist, focusing primarily on the GreenPhyl database, which deals with gene families.

Currently, Valentin is engaged in a variety of significant projects, including the Musa Germplasm Information System (MGIS), the Plant Breeding API (BrAPI), the Banana Genome Hub (BGH), Florilège (a CIRAD project), Gigwa, the BOLDER project, the Adaptation Atlas, and more. His work has predominantly centered on the Banana and Cocoa genomes, where he has played a role in their sequencing and produced pangene sets (pangenomes).

Valentin's core competencies encompass web user interfaces (UI), application programming interfaces (API), computational pipelines, algorithms, databases (PostgreSQL/CHADO), and content management systems (CMS), particularly Drupal.
